Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth: But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also. And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloak also.
Turning the other cheek...walking away from a fight...not giving your persecutor the satisfaction of knowing they hurt you...
These are Christian principals, but when do you stand and fight?
Two characters in Whatever It Takes have already practiced these ideals. Will the others continue to do so? Would YOU do so?
Patrick Gautier
opened the package in brown paper. "Hmm?" he wondered as he tore the
paper. When he saw Jenna's face holding a phallic symbol as if it were a
lollipop and the title of the DVD, he almost had a stroke.
"Anythin'
interesting in the mail?" asked Jenna as she came from putting their two
children to bed.
"No!"
said Patrick shortly.
"Yer face
says somethin' different. What's wrong, Patrick?"
"Oh, Jenna.
Kyle's not the only target."
Looking at the
case in Patrick's hand, Jenna screamed, "What is that?"
"Do you
really wanna see?"
"Call
Uncle Ray. Now!"
Ray and Parker
arrived at Patrick and Jenna's house to an almost hysterical Jenna. Ray took
the case and dusted it for prints. He looked at his nephew and niece. "Are
we gonna watch it?"
"We have
to, Daddy," said Parker. "It might give us a clue as to who made it."
They locked the
door to Patrick's home office just in case one of the children should wake up and
see something they shouldn't.
"That's not
me!" cried Jenna.
"We know
that," assured Ray.
Jenna fretted, "Uncle
Ray, what if they've sold some of these?"
"You'll be
famous, even if it's not you."
"That's
disgustin'. Patrick's the only man I've ever been with. I feel violated."
"I'll try
to find any copies I can, but I can't make any promises."
Patrick put his
arms around Jenna. "Don't worry about it. If anyone ever asks, turn the
tables. Ask them if they enjoyed it."
"Patrick!"
"Jenna,
they're trying to hurt us. If we react in anger or fear, they've won. Uncle
Ray, take that with you. Find all the copies you can, but don't sweat it. My
love for this woman won't be affected by a bunch of lies."
"Good for
you." Ray took all the packaging and the video, but he doubted he'd find
much evidence.
After Ray and
Parker left, Patrick pulled Jenna close. "You could try to reenact that
private dance just for me."
"Patrick
Gautier! That was not me!"
"I know,
but my Irish Spring is mine. Wanna see if you can give a show like that with no
one else around?"
Jenna laughed. "Patrick,
she was an amateur. I would put her to shame."
"Show me."
He caressed her arms.
"So, it's
a private dance ye're wantin', is it, Mr. Gautier?"
"Only if
touching is allowed."
"Touchin'
will cost ya lots extra."
"I can
afford it."

Once again, the flow of how you write...makes the reader want to turn the page. Love the end of this bit and how it ended.
