For most of us, at least one pet comes into our lives
that we love with our whole hearts, a pet that becomes more than just an animal to care for,
more than just a companion, more than just a warm body to snuggle up with—they become another human to us. Such a pet was
Satin.
Satin was fifteen pounds of satiny, glossy
black cat. For years my children and I joked and even role-played that Satin
was not a cat, but a panther. Further still, we often pretended that he was
actually a human that some witch had transformed into a panther, who became
king of not only the panthers, but his entire realm.
Of course, if Satin were human, then all our other pets had to be human, too.
Thus, were born many of the characters in this book.
Alone, confused, desperate, Aidan O'Rourke never dreams that talking to old Diggory Danaher will take him on an adventure of a lifetime. After months of stories about a mythical island and his father, Aidan decides to find out for himself if his father is alive and living as a panther on the enchanted island.Stowaway wives, a lost father, bewitched human beings, a wicked witch, pirates, and friendly dragons combine to draw Aidan into a web of intrigue of good versus evil as he becomes the champion of a land that only exceptional humans can reach. Aidan proves how exceptional he truly is through the power of faith and unconditional love.
